Another Special Little Boy Shows the Reason We Do What We Do
Lil "Taco"
Hello I am named Taco. I am a little guy and only about four months old.. I found something really interesting the other day. It smelled good and tasted good but made me so sick I almost died. I was given to my new home here and they told me I had eaten Decon which mom says kills rats. Well I tell you it felt like my tummy was burning and I could not eat or drink. Every 45 minutes my new mom was poking me with fluids she says and then forcing fluids into my mouth as well. I began to feel better after about 24 hours and was transferred to Steve's house where they have cats and one had the nerve to try and eat my food. I was feeling good enough to chase it away though. I have been improving and gaining weight (mom says I was too too skinny) and soon will have a forever home where I can be spoiled.
Mom took some pics of me and said she would show you so here they are.

We had hoped that Taco would be able to find a new home. Unfortunately after a vet check we learned that Taco will suffer side effects from the Decon for his lifetime. His liver will not function properly and he has a problem with blood clotting. We were told the following and may it help any who use products such as Decon to know the dangers to your animals
Taco is making him home with Steve and Linda who live only minutes from a vet. With his problems he needs to be close to a vet in case his body were to stop functioning. They sent the pictures below to us today. Steve is a board member at the Sanctuary and we know Taco will have the best of care. With Linda there we know he will be a spoiled little monster and be loved the way most animals dream of. My love to both Steve and Linda.
Now as to Decon and the effects it has on animals please read.
D-Con not only dehydrates its victims, it also drains the body of vitamin K-1 which affects the body's ability to clot blood. It's a sort of human-induced hemophilia. Without K-1 supplements, he is at risk of bleeding out from even the slightest wound, even if it's just a bruise. Beyond that, his blood chemistry is a mess and will take time to straighten out. His liver function is somewhat impaired and will need to be monitored throughout his life. He seems to be a normal pup other than that.
If you use DeCon please know the risk you put your pets at. Please check into other natural products that cannot harm your animals. This puppy may have a normal life but it was rescued just in time and thankfully was taken to a vet before even a single bruise or cute happened. Here are pictures of Taco and Steve and Linda's taken July 1, 2004.
