MEET MISS AMARI

Thanks to Linda and Wendy this little girl no longer lives in this jail where she has been for way too long and is roaming about the Sanctuary meeting new friends and finding a new life. Amari was kept in a cage that was way too small for her. So small she could not even stand up right. She is skin and bones, infested with fleas and terrible afraid of people. I have several e-mail from Linda that I will share about her.
Linda found out about little Amari (then called Pandora) and felt for her. She was to be put to sleep. Linda said no way and began a way for her to get to a safe place. Wendy agreed to drive part of the way and met me outside the Sanctuary where she now resides.
Here she is on her journey then we will share her story

Amari has joined us here at the Sanctuary - she will visit Dr. Hill next week and then be up for adoption. If you would like a pre-application plesae contact pdorsey@sanctauryanimalrefuge.org
One of the first e-mails from Linda - Thanks Linda for being such a loving considerate woman to not let this baby get any worse or still worse be put to sleep.
Pandora is VERY skinny, you can see her ribs, her hip bones. She is kept in a crate with no tray. When she was let out of the crate she was very hesitant about coming to me or Bill or the woman who brought us there, she sort of put her head down and looked up and rumbled lightly and went over and drank a ton of water. Then she started to come over to see me, sort of hesitated and looked at the water dish and chose the water again. The woman said she doesn't know why she was drinking so much as she had just had water 1/2 hr ago. (Yeah, right). Anyhow, if you know anyone who can help find this girl a foster home or even better yet a forever home, please let me know! I spoke to a rescue group in this area and one woman told me she would have another one look into Pandora. Well the other woman said the HS does not have room because of the hurricane. If animal control is called to rescue her, more then likely she will be killed.
She is about a year old according to he owner, a fellow who took another
giveaway dog said he doesn't think she is but about 5 months old. She
does have a tail that she thinks she should wag but isn't quite sure
why--can she be given a reason?
I don't think she would be much over 70 pounds if that, if she is fed
right (heck, if she is fed at all). The owner said she had had her
puppy shots.
The last email today
Hi
all, boy, if it wasn't enuf that I was nervous before I left the house,
well, I was handed something else to be nervous about.
I got to Pandoras home and brought plenty of cookies--she is shy after
all but skinny! We made friends just as the cookies ran out and she put
her head on my knee. Ok, she trusted me to a degree. The collar went
around her neck and the folks said bye and stayed in the house--Pandora
does not walk well on a leash so I had to gradually 'drag' her a step at
a time--great, almost to the back of the Jimmy and BAM, she yanked and
the leash came out of my hand and to make it short, she went UNDER the
house!!!! Now of course she doesn't trust me enough to come out, and to
make a long story a bit shorter, after many minutes the grandmother went
in and dragged the son-in-laws butt out of bed and had him come
down--another bunch of unnecessary details--he went around back inside
the fence, called her and she came to him. He picked her up and brought
her to the Jimmy and into the crate she went. A plus on her side, she
travels well, not a peep, course she is scared to death. Ok, we make it
down to Ft. Myers and we (Wendy, Pandora and myself) meet at Jones Loop
Rd. Now comes another challenge, getting Pandora out of the
Jimmy/crate. Not gonna be easy, she is laying down and DOES NOT WANT TO
GET OUT. We put a double collar leash on her, 'just in case' and tried
and tried, she wasn't interested in cookies any longer, didn't want
water, ok, Wendy tugs and I go round back and lift the back of the crate
up--good, she puts her front paws out, so I tap the underside of the
crate--back in come the paws. Anyhow, we got her out as you can see
from pictures that will be following. It won't take long to get her to
trust her forever person, she is a doll although timid and not
trusting. No scolding this girl, she will melt. Anyhow, just letting
you know, Wendy and I got her into Wendy's back seat (4 door car) by a
bunch of tugging and lifting and off they went. Wendy had 45 mins or so
to go, so I am imagining she is back home, at the very least Pandora is
at Palena's
And my comments - Pandora YUK NO WAY NOT THAT NAME - her name is now Amari a little angel not a mythical woman sent to send illness and ill will in the world.
Amari is doing well and has met some friends - see pics below. If you are interested in her please send an email to pdorsey@sanctuaryanimalrefuge.org

Armani - boy what a difference one day makes - this little girl has really changed - she has a new best friend in Lexie and they are inseparable - Just have to share the pictures so everyone can see the change one day can make.

I received an e-mail from Linda today regarding "Amari's Thoughts" So humorous and touching that I cannot help but post it on this site - Its funny to think of the things that might have been going through Amari's head when all the events of yesterday transpired but I do not think anything or anyone could illustrate it better than Linda.

Thank you Palena, :) I am keeping a folder on her--even tho she isn't
mine, I still care a great deal about her and what happens to her. I'm
so glad she has a buddy :) I hope (crossing fingers, wouldn't it be
great) that whoever adopts one, adopts the other seeing as they have
become best buds! You are working miracles with her and I can only
imagine what she has been thinking since yesterday morning---
Oh no! This lady is dragging me to the road, gotta get away! Run,
jerk, there--quick! Under the house--nice and dark, safe, all I can see
is her knees--oh oh, there is the man, he means a bit food, I will go to
him--HEY! Put me down! NO NO, not in the monster :( Another cage :(
what is this strange smelling monster that is so noisy? Finally, no
more movement, now what?
The back is opening, there she is again! And ANOTHER lady! Now they
are pulling, well, I'm not leaving my cage--it's safe here, noone can
bother me--NOT FAIR - it's being tilted, I have to go out but only so
far, oh oh, more pulling, cookies are in front but I am afraid--it's
different in this world than when I was put in here--I can't help it,
they have me out--I will sit here a while and watch. Now I'm being made
to get off the monster and onto the ground, why do they pull on me I
don't know what it means--good, they've stopped, now they are petting me
and talking and saying soft things--look, another monster with a big
mouth on the side and they want me to what? Get in there? I don't
think so! Uh uh, I have no choice, more pulling and now lifting! This
is so scarey :( More moving and moving--wait, I can see things--look
out the glass, things are moving! That is so strange, I will lie down
again. Huh, the moving has stopped and the side opens again--two more
ladies, one is different again, where did the first one go? This seems
alright, the new one is nice also, her voice is soft and she kisses my
head and squeezes me, how strange--more words and soft things, into
another moving monster but I think this is alright, nothing bad so far,
just strange--not so long this time, it's stopped and I have to get out
again. WOW! Look at this, DOGS! They are saying hello and they are
running around and trying to get me to play! How nice! And more hugs
and soft words and and....................NOOOOO what is she doing with
that snake??! I am getting water ON me, I want to drink it--wait, this
feels good! Amazing, no more crawling feeling on me, I feel pretty
good! And now there is stuff to eat! All this in the dish is MINE! I
love this soft lady and my new friends, I am sooo happy! I will sleep
here by my new friends and keep an eye on the lady for more food.

The little girl in the top picture locked in a cage no longer lives here - instead we have a playful little rottie with a tail that loves to be hugged and kissed and loves to give hugs and kisses back. Even I am amazed at her transformation - she is gaining weight - loves cookies and is learning to play ball - what great joy she brings to us each day.
