Frank
9/12/04
I still get amazed at what I come home to sometimes. Today Lizette and Rusty found homes. I was happy and excited as I am when any of them find a home. When I got back from taking Rusty James and Sherri who work at the Sanctuary were waiting at the gate. Before Hurricane Frances came they had tried to catch a stray pregnant cat that was at their place - they were unable to do so and the day they brought their animals over to stay here so they could take the kids to a hurricane shelter Sherri said that she thought the mother cat had her babies as she was no longer fat. Of course I was very concerned. When they got back from the shelter after the Hurricane they tried very hard to locate the mother and her babies, especially with the threat of Ivan. Two nights ago a pack of dogs came into their yard and killed the mother cat - for the past two days they have been looking to see if they could find the kittens - hoping that maybe the storm or the dogs did not get them. Today this little guy they could hear up under a shed on their place and they dug him out. Tired - hungry and only a week old - eyes barely open - surviving Frances - surviving a dog attack that killed his mom - and surviving two full days without food or comfort from anything. He is not in the care of the Sanctuary and has been named Frank after Hurricane Frances. In the new future he will be looking for the best of homes to love him forever.
Introducing Frank who loves to suck my lips and amazes me that he is still alive and with us.

9/13/04 - morning
Another miracle. After leaving the Sanctuary Sherri and James and their two children tore the shed up - they found two other kittens there. I have not seen them. Sherri is fostering them during the day as I have to work but I will be checking them out tonight to make sure they are healthy - do not have respiratory infections and are eating properly - pictures will be following - all I can say is today my commitment to this place - the animals has been renewed - to know that these little ones have survived the impossible truly shows me the importance what any of those who work in rescue and who give of themselves is.
Here are pictures of the other two babies - only one female named Frances the little one with the mask on her face and Ivan the pure black male. These babies celebrate their week old birthday today.
