MEET HERCULES

Thanks to Dawn Hercules shall live to see another day.  Dawn was at the pound picking up a cocker spaniel for another rescue when she saw him.  She immediately called me and told me about him.  I told her I was not sure I had room but would think about it.  Then she sent me pictures of him - nothing but skin and bones and I melted.

Hercules is easily 40 pounds underweight and is full of worm.  He is a gentle as a lamb and much bigger tan our goats.  He rode in the car like a gentleman.  He is hand shy and will cower if you move too fast.

He enjoyed meeting everyone here and shows no sign of aggression to anything.  Here he is meeting Sherri as she gives him water and baths him.

se or still worse be put to sleep.

Hercules will be on special foods and vitamins to gain weight.  He wll be wormed today and put on antiobiotics for 7 days.  Then he will make a trip to be neutered and whatever else Dr. Hill thinks needs ot be done.  He has several scars on him and some small growth on his underside all will be checked by Dr. Hill.

No animal should ever be in this shape.  Although an older dog he will not die from neglect.  When his time comes he will die with love and pass over the bridge knowing that life was good.

Hercules is settling in well - he is on a high maintenance diet and enjoying all of the attention.  Not surprising his newest buddy and his favorite is Adonis - talk about the big and little of it.  Pictures are below.

Update April 7, 2005

Hercules continues to be the big baby around here - sitting in peoples laps when he can and slobbering all over the place.  We love him dearly and enjoy each and every day that he is here - a big overgrown lapdog full of lots of life and love.  When the grandkids came to visit he was a big hit and loved all the attention he got.  Of course the kids thought he was nothing but a horse.

Hercules is a strong loving dog - He is getting old and some days has a bit of a tough time getting up but he still has the love and affection and happiness as the day we took a skinny half dead animal out of animal control.  He skin shines now - his smile is wider and his slobber still finds its way all over the place.  He is the heart of the Sanctuary and everyone visiting falls in love with him.  At night he finds his way in the bedroom always coming to give his goodnight kiss - sit on the side of the bed like a human and try and push me around with his head.  He has given me much strength and belief in what we do here.
