Lil and her five boys

5/20/2007

What happens when a backyard breeder no longer wants to breed a certain type of dog?  They put them out in the back yard until they can get rid of them.  Such is the case with Lil and her five sons as well as two other adults.  Needless to say that Saturday when these babies came there were all sick.  They are three weeks old.  I was so totally unprepared to get so many sick dogs and especially the number of pups that I got.  But I called the Board of Directors for the Sanctuary and the hard working group they are they found some liquid amoxycillin for all the pups and drove the two hours from the city of Fort Lauderdale to my place in the sticks and delivered it and other goodies for some of the other animals.

Lil is emaciated and sick herself.  Jess brought everything up here and helped me get them all settled and fed and spent the afternoon helping with many things.  These babies will make ti thanks to the dedication of the Board of  Directors and the wonderful soul in Georgia who got these babies away from the breeder so we could get them.  Although we had to pay dearly for them we also know that without Patsy and her never ending days of finding backyard breeder dogs needing us and shelter dogs needing us these pups might not have made it.  They may not be out of the woods yet but they are much closer than they would have been and have a great chance of making it.

If you are interested in Lil or her babies and one day taking one of them home please let us know by contacting pdorsey@sanctuaryanimalrefuge.org

Well out little ones are doing much better.  Will be vaccinated today and have eaten their first meal on their own - They are four weeks old today.  Eating their first meal, as with all young puppies was comical - they wore more and splashed more out of the plate then in their stomachs but they learned that the plate had some yummy things in it
