Our Special Little Boy Shows the Reason We Do What We Do

Lil "T'Kai"

T'kai made an entry into what I am sure he thought was a horrid mean world.  Only a second after being born his mother (underfed and half starved) bit into him throwing him away from her.  The owners had gotten me as she had tried to have the first pup for hours with no luck.  When I got there it lay half in and half out dead.  I gently got the pup out and T'Kai was the next.  In her pain and her poor physical condition she bit and threw him.  T'Kai has been at the Sanctaury since he was born.  He is a constant joy and a reminder of our commitment to animals.  Below he tells his story.

HI Everyone.  My name is T'kai.  It seemed I was not loved the first few seconds of my life.  I can remember feeling a rush of air and then a horrid pain as something grabbed me and threw me.  I flew though the air and then I felt kind hands picking me up.  I could not see anything as my eyes were not open but I felt safe all of a sudden.  Later my mom Palena told me that I had been bitten and thrown but that I was not to be angry as she said my dog mommy had been sick herself and very undernourished.  But I have a new mommy now.  I had to wear a very uncomfortable bandage the first week of my life.  Mom said that I had a hole in me the size of a quarter.

The second week was better.  The bandage came off and mom took me to my first doctor visit.  They glued my wound as mom says my skin was bare to the muscle.  Then mom had to go back to work and so I met some new people.  Every morning mom takes me to Indian Trace Animal Hospital.  They babysit me during the day when mom is at work.  They are so nice.  I get to play with them and be fed with my bottle and be held a lot.  Its a great place to go.  Mom even took the camera one day and took some pictures for you to see where I go.

See how nice they are?  As I get older mom lets me meet some of my brothers and sister.  There is this one little guy that I really liked but he found a forever home.  His name was Runt but he sure thought he was a tough guy.  Sometimes mom let me play with him.

He was really gentle with me.  Then she let me meet my big sister Lexie.  She is a rottweiler and I was scared at first she was so big.  But she was so friendly.  When she would give me a kiss her whole tongue was bigger than my head.

Then there is mom Kizzy.  She really loves me.  Mommy lets her be with me a couple of times a day.  She washes me and loves on me and lets me cuddle with her.  Mommy says she is sick too.  She has a heart murmur and anemia but we are going to make her better mom says.  Mom Kizzy is the closest thing I have to a dog mommy and my mom says that Kizzy will teach me dog things.

Well I am now three weeks old and I got to taste food for the first time at the babysitters.  Mom gave me some too and was laughing at me.  Yep my eyes are open and I am all over the place.  She said she had to take a picture of me eating as she did not know how much was getting in my mouth and how much was getting all over everything.  I just looked at her with a face full of food and tried to tell her how hard it was to learn to eat.

Well that's where I am at now but you come back and watch me grow.  Mom says I am an angel and a miracle.  She thinks I am cute

If you would like to adopt one of my brothers or sisters, or if you would like to help my mom be able to be able to take care of more animals please think of giving a donation to the Sanctuary or maybe being a forever home to one of my brothers and sisters.  We have a lot up here and even goats and pigs and ducks and chickens.  Mom says I have to wait a while before I get to go out and meet them.

Well goodbye for now and I will be back next week.

I have two brothers that are here in the nursery/infirmary - their stories are something else.  You can click on their names to read their stories.

July 1, 2004

Well I am really growing.  We are getting ready to celebrate the 4th of July.  Mom says that is a very loud night.  She said the skies will light up and there will be a lot of noise but not need to worry she said she will hold us all really close and nothing can hurt us.  She took some pictures of us in Sailor outfit and 4th of July outfits.  A friend of hers sewed these clothes just for us and if I say so myself they are very very cute.  I picked the pictures to share and here they are.  You can see how big I am.  And my new little brother Miho - well you can see how much better he is getting.  You can read his story below if you click on his name.

This is my big brother Buddy - I like to pick on him and he lets me.  He is a great big brother and is teaching me how to eat right from a bowl.  Mom laughs when I try and eat by myself cuz I lay in it and make a mess and then fall asleep.  But Buddy is teaching me the right way.

I had to beg mom to put my one friend on the site.  I kept telling her that Tux was no where on the site and that was not right as he is in the nursery as well.  He is fun and he and I are great friends.  I only get to visit with him once a day as he is still healing.  His family bit holes in him too and put a gash on his head and all along his back.  But mom is making him better.  I think he is special.  At first I did not know what he was and mom said he was a chick...so I thought well that is a funny looking dog (mom had to tell me I was a dog because I did not know and still not sure if I believe her).  Anyway I asked mom to take some pictures of Tux and of Tux and I playing so you could meet him so first here is a picture of Tux and then of Tux and I playing.  Can you believe he crawls on my head :)  What a funny guy he is.

Hope that you all have a nice 4th of July.

Well even though I love my mom and living  here at the Sanctuary where I have so many friends I sometimes wish I had a family that did not have so many animals so I can get more attention.  I talked to my mom about it, and she cried and said you know T'kai you are right, its selfish of me to keep you here just because I love you so much.  To really show how much I love you I will find you a forever home so you can be the center of attention.  I'm a little scared to leave my mom but well would you like to be my forever home?  You can contact my mom and she can tell you how to go about adopting (I think thats what she calls it) me.

Well here I am at nine weeks...aren't I a cute little boy?  Mom thinks so - she says I am very very handsome and very very smart too - I know how to walk on a rope I think mom calls it a leash - its fun -  and I am learning to go potty outside - I like that too as I get to visit with the other kids and get to go and see Tux again since he had to go and learn to be a chicken -  Shoot I though the was ok as a dog and he didn't seem to mind but mom says he has to learn to be a chicken.

Now look am I as handsome as my mom says?

Read the two stories of my brothers below.  They are good little guys like me that just had a rough start in life.  But mom and the Sanctuary love us so much that they have taught us that life is really beautiful.
