Flora, Moses, Noah and Fawna
Thanks to the joint efforts of Dawn from Save the Pets and Palena from the Sanctuary these four puppies were not euthanized. On a visit to AC to check on a big male rott that the Sanctuary is waiting to bring home they saw these four little pups about 4 weeks of age. They were taken from previous owners on acts of cruelty. We have no idea what happened to the mother. They are about 4 weeks old and have spent the weekend due to Hurricane Charley in Ft Lauderdale at Dawn's house. They will join the ever growing number of puppies at the Sanctuary on Monday. They will be ready for adoption in about four weeks after they have been checked out and treated and given all shots. We are accepting applications on these babies. If you are interested in any of them please contact pdorsey@sanctuaryanimalrefuge.org

UPDATE 8/22/04
The pups have taken a turn for the worse - all of then are not responding to meds for their upper respiratory infection. Noah was the first to be hooked up to an IV as he is dehydrated overnight and refuses to eat or drink - Fawna also needed to have fluids injected and is refusing to eat and drink. Moses and Flora ate their breakfast this morning and do seem to be responding to the antibiotics.
A few pictures were taken and we will share them

Please send positive thoughts for our babies.
It has been a very sad three days at the Sanctuary. Noah, Flora and Fawna have all passed to the Rainbow bridge. Moses is hanging in there and is at Indian Trace Animal Hospital under the care of Dr. Hill, our Guardian Angel. Dawn from save the pets wrote a dedication to Noah but we shall use it for the three that now wait for us to come and get them.
You spoke to us asking for the love that you would have never known. You died being loved and cherished by us all. You gave to us a lesson in loving in the short time we had you. Know that we will fight in your honor to stop animal abuse and pet over population, to educate others to love and care for their pets. We will always remember your sweet face and will see you at Rainbow Bridge. Peace little ones, We love you!
I hope that their story - their short lives will make everyone more committed to fighting the cause of animal abuse. Their mother abused herself was unable to feed them properly - they had no chance in life - but were loved - but love at times is not enough - we must fight for stronger laws protecting them so this does not happen again.
We hope that Moses will make it - be a testimony that abuse can end. Please watch their page for updates on Moses.
Moses did not make it. He was transported to Indian Trace where Dr. Hill examined him. Because of his mistreatment birth his prognosis was poor - the fact that his poor mother had been so neglected she could not properly tend to them he did not have the strength to fight the pneumonia that was ravaging his body.
To lose any animal is heartbreaking. To needlessly lose an animals to cruelty makes my blood boil. These four little innocents will still live on through the posters the Sanctuary will create to fight for stronger laws for animal cruelty and to teach children about cruelty, the purpose of the best treatment and the right way to treat puppies. In this dedication to their lives maybe the Sanctuary and all the other rescue groups that we work with and that are across the states can at least win more battles against cruelty in animals and the education that animals are not possessions but beautiful living creatures who deserve the same treatments any human does.
We shall miss our little babies - and their short time here taught us much - they gave us much love even as they died - struggled to lick our hands - plead with their eyes and even in pain and suffering still felt love for people even though they had been so mistreated.
