Powder

October 1, 2007

Powder was found at the Catoosa Animal Shelter in Georgia.  A person dear to my heart runs that Shelter, Darla Proctor, she sent me an email about Powder and soon he was on his way.  Well I should not say soon and I want to give Darla the accolade she deserves.  She kept Powder for almost two months until we could get him.

Since he has been here Powder has mapped the house and has made new friends.  Blessing is one of them and another Peke from Animal Control in Spaulding is another.  The Peke is blind as well and these two are fast buddies.  Today Briong the Peke got a bath, Powder was next but when I finished dipping Briong in flea dip and put him down to dry with some on him Powder came running to him.  Little did Powder know that he was next.

For me Powder brings a sense of reality.  Even though blind he has learned that if my hand rests on the top of his nose it means that its time for a treat and he so very gently opens his mouth and takes it from me.  He knows if I whistle a certain time its time to play and he will (given a few minutes) find his stuffed toy.  He knows that when I say AHHHH it means that whatever he is doing (which is usually getting into the garbage or jumping on the counter to smell what I am cooking)  he has to stop.  For more information please contact   He is a smart dog that learns fast.  He is timid and shy but will follow me all over the house.  He loves the little dogs the big ones and understands he has a home now.  He has a bed he loves to sprawl on his back in and he has found peace.

There is no way I can ever thank Darla enough for knowing this boys spirit.  So many would not have wasted time on him.  But she did as she did with my Sayto and many others that reside here now.  With Darla as an example to all shelters what a difference we can make.

As Powder goes through life with his little nose lifted to the sky I hope he too will be an example to others that dogs with challenges are great pets and companions.  Powder has shown that over and over
