Sabu

May 11, 2007
Sabu is one of our puppy mill dogs. She is young - sweet - kind - gentle - and way too curious. She lives with four other huskies that we got from Georgia. Sabu was in her kennel and saw something move in the grass - like always she went to investigate. It was a water moccasin and it bit her hind leg. We have had many storms and are still in a drought - with the forest fires on three sides of us we are also full of smoke. Snakes are literally coming out of the woodwork to get away from the fires and to find water. Sabu was literally in the wrong place at the wrong time. Within hours her leg was black and sloughing skin. She was bleeding out. Rushing her to the vet he stopped the bleeding and said he would have to wait and build her blood back up before he could operate. Everyone there watched as her leg continued to fall apart, exposing bone. Wednesday they took her in for suregery. She lost her back leg as you can see. What amazes me is that this dog hours after surgery was up and walking around. If only us humans could learn the way of animals it may be a better place to live. Sabu is home in a bedroom of her own with a radio to listen to and enjoying all the special attention. We love her dearly and maybe one day someone will see the beauty of a three legged dog as we do.

Please come back to see more updates on Sabu as she heals.
