SIMBA

5/20/2007

At 5:30 this am she was woken with the sound of a gunshot and then her dog howling.  She ran outside to find him under the trailer with a gunshot wound to his head - at 8:00 this am he was brought here.  Thankfully the bullet went in behind the ear but was at an angle where it came back out only slicing through about 5 inches of muscle and tissue in his neck.  had the angle been 1/2 inch to the left it would have entered his brain. I irrigated the wound making sure that the bullet did not drag any hair and tissue inside and treated him.  He is resting safely now and will stay here.  His name is Simba - about a year old pitt mix - beautiful baby with a great personality.  You can clearly see the entrance and exit of the wound.

Those were the words I used in an email.  I was still in shock that someone had done this to the dog.  I was thrilled he was acting like a normal young dog - happy the bullet had missed going into his brain and sick that it was too close for any comfort.  Simba will heal fine - he will be hopefully adopted by someone that can love him and give him a SAFE home.  Through it all with me digging through his muscle to make sure no bullet and irrigating it and giving him shots he licked my face and arms and trusted me without knowing me - a faithful and loyal dog through it all.  If you are interested in Simba and one day taking him home please let us know by contacting pdorsey@sanctuaryanimalrefuge.org
